THREE TIPS FOR OVERCOMING DENTAL ANXIETY

If you start missing dental appointments because of anxiety, fear is not your only problem. Lack of oral health care causes smaller dental problems to add up until you have no choice but to go to the dentist. By that point, you may have put your oral health in serious jeopardy.
Overcoming your stress abut dental care is vital for good oral health, and we are here to support you in any way you need.
  1. Choose a Supportive Dentist – Any relationship with a healthcare professional needs to be based on trust. You cannot protect your oral health if you don’t feel comfortable sharing your feelings with your dentist. If he or she is impatient with you or doesn’t listen to your concerns, you should find another dentist.
  2. Share Your Concerns – Dental anxiety means different things to different people. For many, anxiety starts in childhood with a bad dental experience. Others may dread the thought of an injection or shrink at the sound of a drill. Understanding the source of your anxiety and sharing it with your dentist benefits both of you.
  3. Ask about Sedation Methods – Do some online research to find a dentist who offers sedation to help you relax. Sedation using nitrous oxide is one method that allows you to relax and remain comfortable for the duration of your appointment. When we finish your treatment, we stop administering the gas, and you can go on with your day with no lingering effects.
Please do not be hard on yourself if you suffer from dental anxiety; it is a very real problem that affects millions of people just like you. Dr. Satyaki Arora at our Clover Medical Centre pride ourselves on gentle, compassionate treatment in a warm and friendly environment.

HOW DOES NITROUS OXIDE SEDATION HELP TO EASE DENTAL FEAR?

If going to the dentist causes you to feel butterflies in your stomach, or fear in your heart, you’re not alone! There are many patients out there who feel exactly like you do. At clover medical centre, we understand that many of our patients need a little extra care when they come to our office and that’s why we offer dentistry with a gentle and compassionate touch to all of our patients. For folks who still need extra assistance getting through their procedures, we also offer nitrous oxide sedation.
What is Nitrous Oxide?
Nitrous oxide is a gas, otherwise known as laughing gas, that is administered through a mask worn during your appointment. Nitrous oxide combines a mixture of 50% nitrous and 50% oxygen and provides a calming and relaxing effect on patients who feel anxious during dental procedures. Nitrous has been used since the 1860’s to help calm patients during medical and dental procedures, and it’s very safe when administered by your dental provider.
Nitrous helps “take the edge off,” helping you to feel calm, happy and relaxed during your procedure. You won’t be unconscious, but you may feel a little sleepy. Nitrous exits your system just minutes after the mask is removed, so you’re able to drive yourself home safely and participate in all of your normal daily activities.
Am I a Candidate for Nitrous Oxide?
Dr. Satyaki Arora provides excellent dentistry with a caring and gentle touch. For patients who feel anxious about their procedures or care, he’s very happy to meet with them ahead of time to explain the procedure in depth and discuss if the use of nitrous would be beneficial for their needs. Your comfort is always our top priority, and we’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable during your dental procedures.
Don’t let fear or anxiety hold you back from getting the care that you need. Call us today to learn more about nitrous oxide and sedation dentistry.
