Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMDs)

Causes for TMD include:

  1. Trauma to the TMJ.
  2. Habits such as grinding and clenching of the teeth.
  3. Improper or changed bite.
  4. Emotional stress.
  5. Arthritis.
  6. Weak neck and shoulder muscle.

Symptoms of TMD could be:

  1. Pain in the jaw, cheekbones, ears or eyes.
  2. Difficulty in opening or closing the mouth, or moving the jaw side to side.
  3. Locking of jaw.
  4. Pain while chewing food.
  5. Ringing in the ears.
  6. Frequent headaches
  7. Clicking or popping sounds when opening or closing the mouth.
  8. Feeling of a heavier bite on one side of the mouth or a feeling that the teeth do not meet comfortably on biting.
  9. Pain felt in teeth or gums
  10. Aching facial pain.
